Music became an addictive pleasure very early on for me. As a kid it was my therapy, I connected with heavy and emotional music, it spoke the hardship I had to deal with early on. It took me hand and made feel more than I could have imagined, it could completely mend or control my mood. I started listening to heavy metal with the likes of Metallica, Death, Pantera and Iron Maiden (to name a few) from the influence of my mum and dad at first around age 8 or 9. My uncle was a huge inspiration to me. He's a very particular character who has a heart of gold and felt SO MUCH love in his heart for music and he conveyed this to me! He was at the centre of my love for Funk and Soul. My uncle spoke of the warmth and beautiful crispy crackle of Vinyl and Cassette tapes. Any chance we got we would listen to his music cassettes tapes on old stereo system from the 70s & 80s. He insisted they sound better old and worn in from this era. So much beautiful nostalgia in that man. I love him so and the gift he gave me, translates in the sound of my own productions. I LOVE Deep, Soulful, thought provoking melodies and grooves, They sing straight to my soul like a language only the two of us speak.
I am also inspired producers such as the likes of: 6th Borough Project. Diamond Jackson, Chicago and Kai Alcé- AHH ! So many gems I could name but hear are the first that come to mind that really inspire/Sing to me... I started playing music at 12 at the insistence of my nana, which I really enjoyed as it was part of my home schooling and meant I didn't have to do maths! I also really loved the piano and felt a real connection from its vibrations even from a young age and would find myself getting so lost in playing keys and chords. I then moved on to percussion when I was 15 and had decided to play my brothers drum kit for the first time after watching a cousin come over and shred on it! It was as if it never existed before then and from that moment on I was hooked. I played the drums in many bands from indie to technical Death Metal and toured all about including the east coast of the US and playing Warped Tour. I still jam all sorts of music on the drums to this day and play some of the drums on my production.
As I discovered more about Deep House, Nu Disco, Trance and Breaks, I wanted to take an active part in the music scene I loved. Around this time I decided to try my hand at production and writing whole songs solely. I have a very hard time connecting with new era music and feel the music industry in mainstream aspects have lost the majority of its soul. So a big thing that I try to accomplish with my productions and in my sets, is to capture the heart and soul of those beautiful eras and to capture the heart and soul of the listener!
From my productions to my DJ sets, I would describe my style as Deep House, Nu Disco, Sensual low slung cosmic beats which has a whole heap of Soul running through it's core. I want to make people feel something... I want to compliment whatever they may be feeling at that moment. Whether it be euphoria coinciding with the music or the view and surroundings or speaking to their souls and pulling at the strings of an emotion they are feeling heavily at the time.
In my DJing career I have been fortunate to play around the world from fashion shows and events in New York, Milan and London to sumptuous surroundings on to glorious beaches and in upmarket bar lounge spaces. I am in my element when providing the perfect soundtrack for music lovers and hedonist seekers.
When reworking my version of 'Glittter Wastland's - Don't Let go', I felt very much in my element, soaking up the track with a heartfelt re harmonisation of my synths, Bassline and Wonky slapped up beat. Much like my "Holly Day" EP which I kind of took an old school approach to, after I heard Michael Jackson speak about leaving things very natural, unfixed and uncompressed. Big and Deep and Real!
My releases can be found on ISM Records On The Fruit Records for information please visit my soundcloud page.
I LOVE music so much and what it's given me! I truly wouldn't have survived without this affair we have and can't wait to plug it into AMMP!
