Mucho Soul began life back in the Spring of 2001 as a monthly club night in Soho, London. The brainchild of long time muso’s and DJ’s Ket Shah and Alan Kenny Arscott, Mucho Soul initially set out to encompass all manner of music with the emphasis on Soul, to a wild and appreciative Saturday night crowd.
Although their original mantra read “from classic and two-step soul to deep and soulful house”, the concept soon developed to include a more varied and eclectic array of black influenced dance music styles ranging from Jazz, Disco, Reggae, Funk, and House right through to the very best fresh Nu Electronica. Since those early heady days at the turn of the new millennium Mucho Soul have gone on to appear and guest at various high profile events including: the Inspiracion Festival 2009 in Tenerife alongside Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby and Simbad, The Sunsplash Antalyar 2010 Festival in Turkey with Norman Jay, Phil Asher and Jamie Liddell, the Soul Survivors Awards Night with Dez Parkes, Fitzroy Da Buzzboy and Marcia Carr, and most recently The Southport Weekender 50th Anniversary in May 2014 with Chaka Khan, Archie Bell & The Drells, Carl Cox and Kerri Chandler.
Mucho Soul were also regular guests during 2014 at The Deep Into Soul Terrace Parties in Brixton with DJ Spinna, Paul Trouble Anderson and Rhemi and The Native Soul Parties (also in Brixton) with Deep House Heroes Osunlade, Culoe De Song and Grant Nelson. Last Summer Mucho Soul also put together a series of “Soul On The South Bank” specials under the “Sunday Supplement” banner which featured live appearances from Nathan Haines, Vanessa Freeman and DaLata with Guest DJ’s Dr Bob Jones and Patrick Forge.
In addition to their regular live DJ appearances Ket and Alan also present their weekly Mucho Soul Radio Show every Sunday between 1 and 3pm on Back2Back Fm which broadcasts across London on the FM dial and globally via the internet.
Their long running radio show which began in 2009 has built up a strong following of devoted followers tuning in every where Ket & Al’s broadcasts have also included critically acclaimed interviews with Jazz Funk legend Lonnie Liston Smith, Don of the Disco Tom Moulton, Eddie Pillar and Dean Rudland from The Acid Jazz label, Rare Groove Legend Norman Jay and The Body & Soul DJ trio of Danny Krivit, Joe Claussell and Francois Kevorkian.
